(SFC) The Court of Arbitration for Sport ad hoc Division will have a temporary office set up in Sochi during the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games next month to aid in the solving of legal disputes, the CAS announced Monday.

The ad hoc Division has operated at each Olympic Games since 1996 and has also been on-call for the Commonwealth Games, the UEFA European Football Championships and the FIFA World Cup. After Sochi, a temporary office will be set up in Incheon for the Asian Games.

American Michael Lenard and Switzerland’s Corinne Schmidhauser will preside over the tribunal in Sochi, with Canada’s Robert Decary, America’s Gary Roberts, America’s Matt Mitten, China’s David Wu, Australia’s Annabelle Bennett, Russian Alexandra Brilliantova, Switzerland’s Patrick Lafranchi, Italy’s Luigi Fumagalli and France’s Brigitte Stern as arbitrators. The International Council of Arbitration for Sport selected the presidents and arbitrators and appointed CAS Secretary General Matthieu Reeb as head of the office.

Each member of the Division in Sochi will be either a lawyer, judge or professor specialising in sports law and arbitration. They will apply a procedure from the Arbitration Rules for the Olympic Games complying with fundamental principles of procedural fairness and due process.

For a participant or sports entity at the Olympic Games would like to submit a dispute, he/she/it must file a request with the CAS Court Office in Sochi. The president will assemble a panel of one or three arbitrators for the hearing consisting of all parties, witnesses and potentially-affected third parties express legal evidence and provide evidence.

Logistics and organisational structures designed for the exact purpose of fulfillment at the Olympic Games allows for decisions to be rendered with 24 hours.

The CAS Office in Sochi will be open 28 Jan. through 23 Feb.
