(SFC) International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach traveled to Madrid Wednesday to visit with His Royal Highness the Prince of Asturias and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.

Bach and Majoy reviewed the importance of Spain’s sports and athletes around the world, while Bach assured the Spanish Prime Minister the failed Madrid 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games bid showed potential for future development.

Spanish Olympic Committee President Alejandro Blanco was with Bach in Madrid and both were joined by IOC members Juan Antonio Samaranch, Marisol Casado and Jose Perurena in the meeting with Rajoy.

The heads of Spanish-speaking National Olympic Committees presented Bach with a joint programme for higher education in the Spanish capital.

Bach met with Spanish research scientists earlier in the day. The group showed the IOC president a presentation on potential anti-doping methods. He also visited the Olympic Broadcasting Service in Madrid to discuss future plans of an Olympic TV channel.

Bach ended his visit in Madrid at the Spanish Olympic Committee’s annual gala, where awards were presented to athletes and members of the sporting world.
