(SFC) The official posters of the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games were unveiled by the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee Tuesday.

Reflecting the core values of the Sochi brand, each poster is designed to portray the respective global-scale event with its atmosphere. A separate collection of posters has also been released featuring Russia’s national character, including imagery of Sochi’s warm sea and snow-capped mountains, as well as the rich cultural heritage of the country.

A Russian matrieshka doll featured on one of the Olympic posters wears a traditional patchwork quilt, symbolising the Olympic Games’ ideology. Sixteen ornaments in the quilt depict famous Russian crafts, like Gzhel and Khokhloma, to represent the Games and the sochi.ru brand.

The character portrayed in the official Paralympic poster is shown in front of the sea and mountains, displaying the Paralympic values of courage, determination, inspiration and equality. Sledge hockey and skiing Paralympic athletes are shown in two of the other Paralympic posters, symbolising equality and spirit.

More than 50 students from seven universities across Russia participated in an art competition, from which the basis of the posters was designed. Work from students  from Ural State Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture and the Surikov Moscow State Academic Institute can be seen in some of the posters.
