(SFC) The International Olympic Committee and Federation of Gay Games met for the first time as a result of a commitment made by IOC President Thomas Bach. Bach was unable to attend a meeting with Russian LGBT groups when he visited Sochi in October.

The meeting was held in Paris Saturday, where Bach, chief of staff Jochen Faerber, and IOC Director for Communications Mark Adams also attended the centennial meeting of the Federation Internationale d’Escrime, the world fencing federation.

The International Olympic Committee made travel arrangements to Paris for Russian LGBT Sports Federation cochairs Elvina Yuvakaeva and Konstantin Yablotskiy and coordinator of Russian LGBT coalition for Sochi Anastasia Smirnova.

Federation of Gay Games Co-President Emeritus and Vice President for Diversity Emy Ritt and Vice President for External Affiars Marc Naimark also attended the meeting, which discussed the measures LGBT sports organisations wanted to promote LGBT inclusion and security for LGBT people and allies during the Sochi Games.

The organisations also discussed the challenges of organising the first Russian Open Games in Moscow and the clarification on enforcement of the anti-gay laws in Russia. The Federation of Gay Games presented a review of actions by the organisation and its partners aimed at the Olympic Movement, including a presentation of the history and plans for Pride Houses at the Olympics.

Each part expects to meet again to promote the common goals of sport for all and sport free from discrimination.
