(SFC) Seoul hosted the Olympic Games 25 years ago, 17 September 1988, and South Korea celebrated the event with a ceremony at Seoul Olympic Museum, according to Yonhap News.
The ceremony was organised by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation and included some of South Korea’s leading sports officials and Olympic medalists, who celebrated the legacy of the first Games to be hosted in South Korea.
The 1988 Games helped the then-emerging South Korea economy, with the hosts finishing fourth in the final medal count with 12 gold medals and 33 medals overall.
PyeongChang will host the country’s second Olympic Games in 2018 with the XXIII Olympic Winter Games.
