(SFC) Tens of thousands of Istanbul 2020 fans will watch the International Olympic Committee’s election of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games Host City 7 September from Sultanahmet Square, the same site as the finish line of the marathon in Istanbul 2020’s Games plan.

The live feed from the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires will begin at 22:00 local time, while the decision as to which of the three Candidate Cities will host the 2020 Games expected to be made at 23:00 local time.

“We may be thousands of miles away from home, but we can feel that the people of Turkey are here with us in spirit,” Istanbul 2020 Bid Chairman Hasan Arat said from Buenos Aires. “The live site at Sultanahmet Square will allow them to live every second of this historic moment with us. As our own Olympic marathon campaign approaches the final spring we hope that the tens of thousands of fans in Sultanahmet Square will be able to cheer us on as we cross the finish line, just as they would cheer Olympic marathon runners from the same spectacular location in seven years’ time.

“The whole of Turkey has dreamt of this moment for so long and 94% of the nation supports our bid, If we are awarded the honour of hosting the Games there will be celebration across the country for many weeks. We’ll hear the cheers form Sultanahmet Square here in Buenos Aires.”

Istanbul is bidding against Madrid and Tokyo to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games. The International Olympic Committee will award the Host City at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires this Saturday, 7 September.
