(SFC) The Madrid 2020 Bid delegation of President Alejandro Blanco, Chief Executive Officer Victor Sanchez and International Chief Executive Officer Theresa Zabell arrived in Buenos Aires for the 125th IOC Session, where the International Olympic Committee will select the Host City of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games.

“I feel optimism and a great sense of responsibility and pride for the work done so far,” Blanco said. “Work, work and more work – that’s our formula for the coming days. We are very confident that we have a great project, created by a great team. The messages in our presentations have been very well received, and we hope that this last presentation will be the best.

“Madrid 2020 is a responsible bid, perfectly suited for the times in which we are living. In the last 10 years, we have worked hard to adapt our city for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“As a result our budget is one of the smallest in recent history because 80 percent of the venues are already built and ready for use. We want to offer the IOC a city that is ready, instead of promising to be. Madrid 2020 makes sense.”

The delegation will continue its campaign for votes with a round of rehearsals and meetings with IOC members prior to the IOC Session’s start.

Mayor of Madrid Ana Botella and President of the Regional Government of Madrid Ignacio Gonzales will arrive in Buenos Aires 30 August, while Honorary Bid Chairman HRH Prince Felipe, Prince of Asturias, will also attend the IOC Session after getting to Buenos Aires the first week of September. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy  will leave from the G20 summit in Saint Petersburg to attend the IOC Session the first week of September, as well.

Madrid is bidding against Istanbul and Tokyo to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games in the city’s third consecutive bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The announcement of the awarded Host City will come 7 September.
