(SFC) Before Madrid 2020 sets off to Argentina for the IOC’s bid city decision on September 7th, they made their way to Moscow with the Spain team for the 14th IAAF World Championship.

As they left from Madrid’s Barajas Airport today for Moscow, waving the Madrid 2020 flag, bidding farewell to reporters and fans, were the first twenty-five members of the forty-strong team, that is made up of thirty male and ten female athletes. In the next few days, their hopes are to see the bid flag flying high in celebration of the team’s success at the Luzhniki Stadium.

Some of the athletes gave their solid support for Madrid’s bid before leaving, “I’ve got a lot of confidence in the bid because they’re doing a really good job. I think Madrid will come out on top on September 7,” the walker, Julia Takacs said.

“When it comes to organizing things, Spain is more than capable. Getting the Games would be amazing,” Spain’s national discus record holder Mario Pestano expressed, as he was indicating the recent FINA World Championship that was held in Barcelona.

Alejandro Blanco, Madrid 2020 Bid President, Theresa Zabell, the International CEO, and Raul Chapado, the General-Director of Sport made the trip to Moscow in representation of the bid. They will once more explain their project to members of the International Olympic Committee that will be attending the World Championship.

Before boarding for Moscow, Theresa Zabell stated, “We are setting to the IAAF World Championships full of excitement. It is a great opportunity to see and talk with the IOC members at the same time as we enjoy watching the best athletes. Athletics is the heart and soul of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and I can’t imagine a more appropriate environment to transmit our excellent Madrid 2020 project.”
