(SFC) The fifth Marca/Spanish Olympic Committee Forum, with the slogan Companies for Clean Sport, has increased the Madrid 2020 Bid by highlighting Spain’s commitment to clean and honest sport.

“We are only interested in clean medals,” Spanish Olympic Committee and Madrid 2020 Bid President Alejandro Blanco said.

“It is up to civil society to drive the country forward, while it is governments that make the laws and companies that sponsor elite sport. We have companies here who, in supporting clean sport, are not looking for a financial return but a social one. Words cannot express how grateful we are for their support and the values they are projecting. That is another reason why we can say the Madrid 2020 Bid is founded on values.”

A number of high-profile companies attended the forum, including Iberdrola, represented by corporate resources director Fernando Becker, Sefuros Pelayo, represented by vice president Severino Martinez, and Coca-Cola España, represent by chief executive officer Marcos de Quinto. Oscar Campillo, editor at Marca, hoped the forums would assist Madrid in its bid to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games.

DKV Seguros, Coca-Cola, Iberdrola, Adecco, Cepsa, Seguros Pelayo, Gaes, Codere, Heineken España, Tau Cerámica, Liberty Seguros, Asisa, Seur, Confectionary Holding, Central Lechera Asturiana, BBVA, Plátano de Canarias, Zurich Seguros, Santander, Iberia, Grupo Catalana Occidente, Renault España, La Zaragozana, Mondo, Kyocera, Caixabank and Ferrero have all joined the clean sport initiative.

Madrid is bidding against Istanbul and Tokyo to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games. The International Olympic Committee will award the Host City at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires 7 September.
