CHAD WISE / Sports Features Communications

(SFC) Thirty benches will be painted by famous Saint Petersburg artists as part of the Sochi 2014 “Peace Bench” project, with many of the benches going to Sochi for the Olympic Games.

The Mikhailovsky Garden in front of the State Russian Museum will host the painting of the benches 29 June. Other painters will include members of the International Federation of artists and of Artists Trade Union Russia – Oleg Yakhnin, Alexey Kiryanov and Anatoly Zaslavsky – and will be assisted by student-apprentices from orphanages and schools of Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.

Visitors to the Russian Museum can also participate in the painting of the benches, 20 of which will be moved to Sochi Olympic Park to be joined with benches painted in other cities across Russia.

Sochi and Moscow have already hosted events in which more than 300 “Peace Benches” have been painted.
