(SFC) Tokyo was slight with 100,000 solar-powered LED bulbs this weekend as the Sumida River's Tokyo Hotaru (Firefly) brought nearly 280,000 people to celebrate the “high-tech river” celebration.

“This year's Tokyo Firefly Festival was a truly spectacular experience that highlighted Japan's renowned technology and the city's innovative energy,” said Tokyo 2020 CEO and Japanese Olympic Committee Vice President Masato Mizuno. “The breath-taking event was perfectly aligned with Tokyo 2020's use of innovation to unite people in a dynamic celebration.”

Tokyo is bidding to host the 2020 summer Olympics and is running against Istanbul and Madrid for the Games. The IOC will make their final decision on September 7th in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the IOC session.
