Madrid 2020 delegation visits Peru for Sport for All world conference

(SFC) Madrid 2020 Bid President Alejandro Blanco, International Relations Chief Executive Officer Theresa Zabell, and Spanish IOC members Juan Antonio Samaranch, Marisol Casado, and Jose Perurena are in Lima, Peru, for the XV World Conference on Sport for All.

“Sport for All is a movement that allows people of all ages and abilities to come together and share an Olympic ideal,” International Olympic Committee member Ivan Dibos said. “Sport is the best resource for improving the quality of life of people and bringing about social change.”

“Sport and healthy lifestyle habits can change the direction society takes,” Blanco said. “The Sport for All conference is the best way of showing the world all the advances that are being made in this are.

“We at Madrid 2020 believe that the teaching of sporting values and a love for sport should be taught as soon as children start school,” Zabell said. “Together with the Ministry of Education we have drawn up a programme designed to promote Olympic and sporting values in the Spanish educational system, and we hope to leave Lima with many other ideas so that we can continue to work on our Bid project which has always been centred around our youth with the aim of improving their quality of life."

Madrid is bidding for the 2020 Summer Games against Istanbul and Tokyo. The IOC will make their final choice on the host city on September 7th in Buenos Aires.
