(SFC) In the past week, Spanish athletes collectively won six medals in different competitions around the world.

Carolina Marin and Beatriz Corrales, badminton players, won the gold and silver medal, respectively, at the Finland Badminton Open. Marin, 19, defeated Corrales for her eighth career tournament win.

The female rhythmic gymnastics team won gold in the general competition in the World Cup in Lisbon, while Liliana Fernandez and Elsa Baquerizo won bronze in the beach-volley CEV Satellite Tournament in Antalya, Turkey.

Javier Gomez Noya, an Olympic silver-medallist in triathlon, won gold at the Triathlon World Series 2013 in Auckland, the Series’ inaugural race. Mario Mola took home silver from the competition.

“We feel very proud of our athletes,” Madrid 2020 and Spanish Olympic Committee President Alejandro Blanco said. “The incredible performance during last weekend of this young generation of sportsmen and sportswomen reinforces our commitment to delivering the Olympic values.”

Madrid is currently bidding to host the 2020 Summer Games against Tokyo and Istanbul. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will choose their final host city on September 7th in Buenos Aires.
