March 1 – The International Olympic Committee Evaluation Commission arrived in Tokyo to a red carpet today ahead of Tokyo 2020’s bid for the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. IOC Vice President and Committee Chair Sir Craig Reedie arrived at Narita International Airport and will attend intensive presentations and site visits during the four-day visit. Tokyo will demonstrate its commitment to ‘Discover Tomorrow’ during the visit.
“It is a tremendous honour to welcome the IOC Evaluation Commission Chair and his colleagues to Tokyo,” IOC Member and President of the Japanese Olympic Committee and Tokyo 2020 Tsunekazu Takeda said. “For the next week, we will go all out to demonstrate our winning formula to hosting the Games in 2020. We are fully prepared for this moment and now look forward to showing our guests everything that the amazing city of Tokyo has to offer.”
Takeda also welcomed IOC Olympic Executive Director Gilbert Felli to the Japanese capital, while Tokyo Governor Naoki Inose met the IOC delegation at their hotel.
The Evaluation Commission will also visit the other two potential host cities, Madrid and Istanbul, a vital step in the decision-making process to determine the Host City of the 2020 Games. The IOC will make its decision in Buenos Aires in September.
