February 13 – Buenos Aires (ARG), Glasgow (GBR), and Medellin (COL) made the shortlist to host the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in 2018, the International Olympic Committee announced today. Guadalajara (MEX) and Rotterdam (NED), who also submitted bids for the Games, did not make the final shortlist.

The IOC Executive Board compiled the shortlist at a meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, after reviewing an IOC Working Group report. The Working Group, chaired by Claudia Bokel, put together the report after evaluation of the Candidature Files and other relevant documentation submitted by each of the five Candidate Cities.

A report by the IOC Evaluation Commission will be submitted in June after it conducts further assessments of the three shortlisted Candidate Cities, as well as holding video conferences with representatives of each. IOC members are scheduled to elect the host city on 4 July at Extraordinary Session in Lausanne.

The 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games will be held in Nanjing in 2014, while the 2nd Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held in Lillehammer in 2016. The inaugural summer and winter editions of the Youth Olympic Games were held in Singapore in 2010 and Innsbruck in 2012, respectively.
