2020 Olympic bid files all submitted for Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo

January 7 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed that all three of the 2020 summer bid cities have submitted their candidature files. The complete bids of Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo will be made public tomorrow as they launch their project plans.

Olympic Games Executive Director Gilbert Felli and Head of Bid City Relations Jacqueline Barrett welcomed the three bid cities as each one took their turn to officially leave their files.

IOC president Dr. Jacques Rogge, said, “The submission of the Candidature Files represents an important milestone for the Candidate Cities and the cities should be congratulated for their excellent work.”

The next step of the bid phase will be the IOC Evaluation Commission under the chairmanship of Sir Craig Reedie will carry out a an analysis of the candidature files and then the commission will visit each city for a four day on site visit.

The dates of the visits will be Tokyo from 4-7 March, Madrid 18-21 March, and Istanbul 24-27 March.

Following these, the commission will then prepare a risk analysis report that will be published in time for the 2020 Candidate Briefing that will take place in Lausanne on 3-4 July.

The final and most important point on the agenda will be the vote on September 7th at the IOC session in Buenos Aires when they choose their final host city.
