November 26 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be holding the biennial Olympic Golden Rings awards in Lausanne November 29th to commemorate distinctions in broadcasting coverage of the London 2012 Games. The awards take place following an edition of the summer or winter Games and under the aegis of the IOC Radio and Television Commission.

Like the Games, gold, silver and bronze trophies will be handed out for five categories: Best Olympic Sports Production, Best On-Air Promotion, Best Olympic Feature, Best Athlete Profile and Best Olympic Programme Award. There will also be one special recognition for the best implementation of the Multi-Channel Distribution Service.

The winners will be selected by an international jury that has been headed by IOC member Denis Oswald who was also head of the London 2012 Coordination Commission.

This edition more than one billion people watched the Olympics through more than 100,000 hours of coverage setting a record for audience figures.

The awards will be announced at a gala evening presided over by Dr. Jacques Rogge, IOC president, and will include members of the IOC Radio and Television Commission, organizers from three host cities London, Sochi and Rio, representatives from the international sports federations and the City of Lausanne.
