November 7 – The Madrid 2020 bid to host the summer Games will also be represented at the 31st OCA General Assembly by the president, Alejandro Blanco, and international relations CEO, Theresa Zabell as they lobby forward on their campaign trail.

Zabell, a double gold medal sailing Olympian, said, “We are very grateful to all our friends in the OCA for the invitation to participate in the General Assembly. We are here to observe, listen and share knowledge and best practices.”

Their principle message is that they will be looking to promote at the OCA assembly is that more than 80% of the Spanish population fully support the bid. The bid proposes a plan that they feel shows that the project is very well placed and a majority of the required infrastructure is already in place.

“We believe that we can deliver a unique experience for the Olympic family, with warmth and fun and in a well-organised City,” said bid chief Blanco. “We see this as a great opportunity for re-generation and the bid is also very well supported by the business community, who see it as a catalyst to greater economic development,” he added.

Madrid is competing against Istanbul and Tokyo to host the 2020 Olympic Games. The IOC will make their decision as to who wins the honor on September 7, 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
