November 2- Barcelona will host the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships in spring of 2013. To help prepare for the event, Spain sent a delegation to the 2nd FINA Aquatics Convention held in Moscow.

Among those attending was Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee and Madrid 2020. He said he wanted to be there to learn about the aquatics venues and study the organization.

“I want to take the opportunity to congratulate FINA for the magnificent organization of the convention, especially the technical seminars in which new possibilities have been studied to improve competitive swimming,” he said. “FINA is a federation model. It has evolved immensely in recent years and is undoubtedly the best tool for creating a solid foundation for the progress of swimming globally.”

The hope expressed in his statements was echoed by Julio Maglione, president of the International Swimming Federation. He said the Barcelona event should be “the best ever.”

For his part, Blanco realizes the world will be watching. He said Barcelona is equal to the task.

“We are very excited to host this competition in one of the most beautiful cities in Spain,” he said. “Once again we will evidence Spain’s excellence in organizing first-class sporting events.”
