Updated: Craig Reedie to lead IOC Evaluation Commission for 2020 summer Olympics bids

September 6 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has just announced the list of members for the 2020 Olympic summer bids evaluation commission as the campaign moves into the next phase.

Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo are the three candidate cities in this bid cycle.

Now that the evaluation commission is decided, the cities will be handing in their bid files January 7 of 2013. Then in March the team will visit each one for four days to learn in person about their bid offers.

IOC President Jacques Rogge said, “We’ve assembled a strong and highly knowledgeable group of individuals led by the experienced Sir Craig Reedie, who knows as well as anybody what it takes to host a sustainable, well-organised and ultimately successful Olympic Games.

“The three 2020 Candidate Cities will all benefit greatly from their interactions with the Commission.”

Sir Craig Reedie, IOC Vice-President, said, “I am honoured to have been chosen as head of the 2020 Evaluation Commission, which brings with it a wide range of experience and represents all facets of the Olympic Movement, in particular the athletes.

“I look forward to working with my fellow Commission members and the three Candidate Cities in the run-up to next September’s election.”

Reedie is fresh from the organization of the London 2012 Games where he served on the board and he also has a background in dealing with evaluations as he was a member of the same commissions for Beijing 2008 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 and also served on the coordination commission for Athens 2004.

The commission members are: Guy Drut (FRA), Frank Fredericks (NAM), Nat Indrapana (THA), Claudia Bokel(GER),Eduardo Palomo (ESA), Pat McQuaid (IRL), Gilbert Felli (SUI) IOC Olympic Games Executive Director, Christophe Dubi (SUI) IOS Sports Director, and Jacqueline Barrett (GBR) IOC Head of Bid City Relations.  

Christophe Dubi makes his debut travelling with the Evaluation Commission however he has been involved in the working group and analysis for a number of years as IOC Sports Director.

The dates of the visits were drawn as follows:

Tokyo / 4 – 7 March 2013

Madrid / 18 – 21 March 2013  

Istanbul / 24 – 27 March 2013
