The Tokyo Jazz Festival 2012 takes place in the city center this weekend

September 6 – Tomorrow the Tokyo Jazz Festival 2012 kicks off for three days of jazz in the city with special guest Burt Bacharach and a whole line up of artists for three days. It is the largest jazz festival that is held in Japan and features a mix of traditional and sophisticated music.

Some of the names that will be playing at the authentic event are Joe Sample & the Creole Band, the Tower of Power, Rufus, Take 6, Ben E. King and Yoichi Murata with his big band along with a host of Japanese artists promising a cool weekend for jazz connoisseurs.

Three different locations will host the event in Marunouchi in the city center, the Tokyo International Forum Hall, the Tokyo International Forum Plaza and the Cotton Club.

Tokyo is bidding for the 2020 summer Olympic Games, and if they win the IOC nod flanking the sports program a cultural Olympiad will be coordinated offering some of the city's finest attractions.

The city has a rich cultural tapestry offering world class shopping, international fashion, great cuisine, fabulous gardens, temples and shrines, museums and art galleries and innumerable activities taking place in the city complimenting the sports events.

The nation is known for its technological innovation and futuristic architecture and has a lot to offer on the touristic side for a cultural Olympiad.
