July 21 - The Olympic flame has arrived in London in a dramatic Bond-style scene as a Royal Marine Commando delivered it to the Tower of London after abseiling from a helicopter.

Marine Martyn Williams made the jaw-dropping 180ft descent from the Royal Navy Sea King chopper at 20:12 hours, reflecting the year of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Following a 63-day tour around the UK, the flame has finally arrived in London with seven days to go before the start of the Games.

The marine passed the flame onto Double Gold Medallist Dame Kelly Holmes and she carried it from the wharf and along the Tower ramparts.

The flame was welcomed by VIPs, including London Mayor Boris Johnson, Lord Coe and Lutfur Rahman, the mayor of Olympics host borough Tower Hamlets.

The flame will spend the night alongside the Olympic medals in Jewel House, within the Tower, under the watchful eye of armed guards.

The torch will make its journey around every London borough over the next week before ending up at the Olympic Park for the opening ceremony on 27 July.
