July 15 –  Reuters news agency is reporting that the head of the Libyan National Olympic Committee (NOC) has been taken at gunpoint and his whereabouts are not known.

Sunday, Nabil Elalem, was traveling in his car with a colleague when they were ambushed by two cars carrying eight or nine armed men in military styled clothing. The told him he was needed and allowed him to take his laptop and cell phone but left the colleague in the car.

Spokesperson for the NOC, Ezz-Edine Journaz, told an independent Libyan television channel about the incident and explained that the men said they were from the army and politely insisted that he come with them.

Libyan Sports and Youth Minister, Fethi Tarbel, spoke to Reuters and called for the release of Elalem. He said, "We condemn this kind of action. Whoever did this are criminals. This  goes against the revolution, this brings us back to the Gadhafi culture ... I don't know if he had any issues with anyone."

Following last year’s demise of Muammar Gadhafi the interim government has been besieged by a number of armed factions who continue to take the law in their own hands and detain people.
