US Olympic Truce Foundation awards Mario Pescante annual prize

July 11 - The US Olympic Truce Foundation will present the annual award to International Olympic Committee (IOC) Italian member Mario Pescante.

Pescante is being recognized for his work to promote peace through the sports movement and solidarity in developing countries. He is also the IOC's representative to the United Nations and was a crusader with former IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch for the recognition of the Olympic Truce in troubled times.

He has also worked to facilitate talks between Israel and Palestine for the free movement of athletes and officials as well as their inclusion in the Mediterranean Games.

The award will be presented on August 1 at the International Rugby Hall of Fame in London.
