June 20 - After Brazil and Argentina, it could be the turn of European and world champions Spain to enchant Qatar’s football enthusiasts.

If things progress as planned, ‘La Roja’ will be in action at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha on November 15, the concluding day of the four-day Aspire4Sport Congress and Exhibition, Doha Stadium Plus has learnt.

“It’ll be great to host Spain, who’re arguably the world’s best team at the moment. We’ve had Brazil, Argentina and Egypt offering perfect side shows in the last two editions of the Aspire4Sport Congress. Hopefully, the football enthusiasts of Doha will be lucky to see the world champions this time around,” said an official on condition of anonymity.

The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, one of the sponsors of the congress, will be in charge of the match. Spain are sure to face a high-profile opposition, and a top official at the committee said, “We’re still exploring the options and nothing is finalised yet.”

In all likelihood, it could be a South American team, but sources confirmed that Brazil would not be making a third successive Doha visit this time.

Uruguay, who finished fourth at the ’10 World Cup in South Africa, are an option being explored.

Meanwhile, the Aspire4Sport organisers are gearing up to make the third edition a grand success.

Held under the slogan ‘Connecting Business and Sport’, it will showcase the opportunities in the lucrative sports business industry in Qatar and the region. Speaking at a gala dinner held at The Torch hotel in honour of last edition’s sponsors, Aspire4Sport Vice-President Abdulaziz Al Mahmoud said they were constantly raising the bar on the event.

“For the first time in the Middle East, three internationally-renowned conference organising companies — IQPC, Coliseum and Informa Sport Group — will work together this year to build the conference programme,” said Al Mahmoud, who is also the Director General of Aspire Logistics.

Beginning from November, Aspire4Sport will be the only platform where a sport business conference can take place in Qatar.

Executive Director Ward Abdullah said, “Aspire4Sport continues to grow and expand every year. In ’12, we’ll host a buyers’ programme to ensure that the key decision makers from major sporting entities across the GCC countries reach here. It’s our goal to give our valued partners and exhibitors the opportunity to conduct business-to-business meetings with them.”

Meanwhile, the Aspire Zone Foundation and Eurosport entered into a media partnership to broadcast the congress activities across Europe.
