June 12 – The Madrid campaign to host the 2020 Olympic Games now officially has added the Olympic Rings to their logo as candidate city.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved Madrid, Tokyo and Istanbul as candidates to host the 2020 summer Olympics last May 23rd at the IOC Executive Board meeting during the SportAccord convention.

Alejandro Blanco, bid chief and head of the Spanish Olympic Committee, said, “It’s another step forward in our journey. We are now a Candidate City and the IOC has also given a very positive assessment of our project. We now have to work hard to deliver a comprehensive dossier that shows everyone the strength of our bid and will help bring us the Games, which will provide a major boost for Spain.”

The bid has also launched a new revamped website making it more socially interactive and user friendly.

All comments on the Madrid 2020 social pages will appear on the main website as well as updated news on the campaign and info about the team. The website users can also share all bid-related news with their followers.

There will also be a separate area for sponsors and those taking part in tenders to support and showcase opportunities for  Spanish businesses.

The final decision will be voted in Buenos Aires next September 7th, 2013.
