May 31 – The SportAccord Convention celebrated its 10th anniversary in Quebec this past week with a stellar attendance both by the world of sports and the media following all the happenings. Over 1800 delegates from 85 organizations around the world were present for the week of meetings.

Representatives under the convention umbrella were the SportAccord (General Association of International Sports Federations), ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations) and AIOWF (Association of the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations). These organizations own the convention and always hold their annual congresses and general assemblies during the event.

The convention got unprecedented live coverage by NHK (Japan), Al Jazeera (Qatar) and Telemadrid (Spain) as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made their decisions on the outcome of the shortlist for candidate cities for the 2020 Games.

Canadian broadcasters Radio Canada and RDS also ran live commentary from the Québec City Convention Centre as well.

Apart from all the international sports federations’ updates and news during the General Assembly the IOC and the US Olympic Committee (USOC) also chose SportAccord as the destination to make their long-anticipated announcement of the new revenue sharing agreement.

There were also a lineup of organizing committees at the 2012 event comprising the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games, University Games, World Games, Military Games, Masters Games and Special Olympics.

The next SportAccord will be held in St Petersburg, Russia from May 26-31, 2013.
