Olympic winter Games host Gangwon Province home to first FIS congress in Asia

May 29 – The International Ski Federation (FIS) is holding its 48th International Ski Congress in Kangwonland, Gangwon Province (KOR) in the upcoming winter Games host region during 27th May to 2nd June 2012.
About 75 National Ski Associations are represented at the meeting and a special visit to the mountain cluster near Alpensia Ski Resort has been planned on May 31st so that members can see firsthand the future areas where a number of international ski and snowboarding events will be held over the course of the next six years until the 2018 Games.
It will be a busy week with more than 100 meetings of the FIS Council will take place as well as the various FIS Technical Committees, Sub-Committees and Working Groups prior to the FIS Congress (General Assembly) taking place on 1st June.
A number of dinners and entertainment will be offered by the Korean Ski Association, Jin Sun Kim, the head of PyeongChang 2018 and Gangwon Governor, Moon Soon Choi, as well as by Kangwonland Resort.
Many decisions will take place during the meetings namely the election of a new FIS council and the dates and destinations of a number of championships and the FIS World Cup calendars for the 2012/13 seasons. Proposals will be submitted by the technical committees following their meetings for consideration by the congress.
The next International Ski Congress will be held in Barcelona (SPA) in June 2014.
