IOC chief Jacques Rogge visits Italian president Giorgio Napolitano in Rome

May 15 - International Olympic Committee (IOC) head Dr. Jacques Rogge is in the Eternal City to be honored with the Onesti award and paid a visit to see Italian president Giorgio Napolitano.

Rogge was accompanied by a team of Italian IOC members, longtime colleague and friend, Mario Pescante,  head of the International Skating Union (ISU) Ottavio Cinquanta, head of the Onesti foundation, Franco Carraro, International Tennis Federation (ITF) chief, Francesco Ricci-Bitti, and honorary member, Manuela Di Centa.

The head of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) Gianni Petrucci, and secretary general, Raffaele Pagnozzi, together with vice-presidents, Riccardo Agabio e Luca Pancalli accompanied the IOC president.

Rogge was awarded the Onesti Award by the Onesti Foundation commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death of Onesti.

Onesti is widely viewed as the visioneer for Italian sport and today a book entitled  “Giulio Onesti, lo sport italiano” (Giulio Onesti, Italian Sport) written by Augusto Frasca was presented as well as a stamp in memory of his contributions to the nation's sports movement.
