TAMPA: The Russian News & Information Agency is reporting that a European Parliament member is opting to cancel the visa requirements for European Union (EU) travelers coming into Russia for the 2014 winter Games and possibly even long term.

During a news conference in Moscow, Hannes Swoboda, said that Russia and the EU would come to a conclusion later this year or next year to liberalize the requirement. Discussions have been ongoing since 2010 with a EU-Russia summit held in Brussels at the end of last year.

Currently visitors holding diplomatic passports have the ability for visa-free travel to the Shengen countries for 90 days and the two entities are considering expanding this to include aircraft crews and civilian ships.
