TAMPA: The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee (SOCOG) for the winter Games mark the two years out anniversary focusing on volunteer recruitment.

The "VolunTour" advertising and informational campaign was officially launched yesterday and today, on the anniversary, SOCOG reaches out for the actual recruitment program. They are expecting over 200,000 applications on their official website vol.sochi2014.com.

Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, said,"Staging the Olympic Games without volunteers would be unthinkable. I am pleased to see that a burning heart was chosen to symbolize the volunteer campaign. It represents the mood and spirit of those taking part in the movement.

“I am convinced that all large-scale events of this nature should include volunteers. In places with a long tradition of volunteering, people of all ages get actively involved.

“The last Olympics in Vancouver were a prime example. They comprised of large numbers of older people, including elderly pensioners, who were willing to help stage a public event, regardless of the scale of the project."

Events will be held all over Russia including the participation of 26 Sochi 2014 volunteer centers with the main one to take place at the “Rosa Khutor” Alpine Center in Krasnaya Polyana.

Games chief, Dmitry Chernyshenko, explained, "Why should volunteers come to Sochi? Because it is the only chance in the whole life! And because, if they come to Sochi, they will not just get nice volunteer uniform, but also the chance to see their sports idols.

“The best of the best, chosen through competition, will be involved in a great historical event, which they will remember for their whole lives."

The volunteer program is actively supported by Sochi 2014 partners. Ingosstrakh will offer insurance, MegaFon will provide mobile connections as well as the volunteer call-center, BOSCO SPORT will supply uniforms for the test events and then for the Games.

TOP Sponsor Atos will support the IT system and Rostelecom provides telecommunication services for this system.

Volunteers will also get English lessons on “Olympic” by EF English First, Detech company will be responsible for the psychological testing of the candidates, and specialists of the Exect company will teach volunteers about team work.

The openiong ceremony for the first Russian winter Games will be on February 7, 2014.
