TAMPA: The Associated Press reports that the security director for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games has been accused of fraud while he was working with the Pan American Games in 2007.

Luiz Fernando Correa was named by Paula Amaral, spokeswoman for the Brazil public prosecutor’s office, stating that he budgeted 40 million reals for security equipment that apparently was only valued at 22 million reals. This relates to a $20 million charge that they value at $11 million with a $9 million difference.

She said that he over billed the government by 80% with the charges.

The investigation also was carried out as it is required by law to make any government acquisitions by way of a bidding for tender process and this did not take place.
