TAMPA: The Doha 2020 bid for the summer Games will also be attending the first winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) with a top level team taking notes on the organization of the event for any tips to add to their bid file.

Minister for Business and Trade HE Sheikh Jassim bin AbdulAziz bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is leading the delegation, which includes bid vice-president HE Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the ceo Noora Al Mannai, deputy ceo Fahad Juma, their legal director Tariq Falamarzi and also PR director Mohammad Al-Othman.  

Ceo Al Mannai said, “The 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games is an excellent opportunity for our team to experience an important new event in the Olympic calendar, meet members of the Olympic Family and to listen and learn. We are pleased and proud to be here in Innsbruck.

"We are close to finalising the content of our 2020 Applicant File and I'm sure we will see things here which will further enhance our thinking.

"There is a tremendous sports and events programme ahead and the whole delegation is excited about being part of this major new initiative for winter sports and young athletes."

GOALS event in Doha

Among other activities taking place in Doha this week was the Gathering of All Leaders in Sport (GOALS) pre-forum working meeting that took place to plan the main event that will take place in December 2012 in the city.  

GOALS is the premier Forum for worldwide social, economic and education initiatives informed by the value of sport and this past week more than 40 of the leading policymakers, innovators, sports scientists, physicians, federation heads, academics, athletes and corporate execs to discuss the most pressing issues facing their industry and to find solutions for growth through sport.

The GOALS pre-forum took place at the Torch Hotel in the Aspire Zone and the primary issues that were  discussed included the commercialization of sport, welfare of athletes, sport as a vehicle for tourism and sport as a conduit for social good and economic growth.

Celebrities to note were Arianna Huffington interviewing Martina Navratilova about her career and the issues discussed at the pre-Forum.
