AIPS Europe stands behind free internet for media at London 2012 Games

LAUSANNE: The Executive Committee of AIPS Europe- UEPS held a meeting October 24-26 in Baku, Azerbaijan and one of the main hot topics up for discussion was the ongoing issue with the rate card for the London Games.

Yannis Daras, President of AIPS Europe-UEPS, said, “Aware that AIPS Europe is considered to be the backbone of the AIPS structure, AIPS Europe continues with its current and future ventures in line with AIPS in order to be of benefit to its member associations and to see the safeguarding of rights of the professional media.” 

AIPS President,Gianni Merlo and AIPS first Vice President, Esat Yilmaer were also attending the meetings in Baku and participated in discussions.

Merlo was in London last week for the World Press Briefing and tackled LOCOG organizers about the rates for internet access as they are offering for media three options: Bronze package £90 (approximately $143.50) per month, Silver package £130 (approximately $207.00) and Gold package £150 (approximately $240.00) per month.
