PyeongChang 2018: Ambassador Jin-Sun Kim to lead the organizing committee for the Games

TAMPA/SEOUL: It has just been announced that the Former Governor of Gangwon Province, Jin-Sun Kim, has been selected to head the organizing committee for the PyeongChang 2018 winter Games.
The Korean Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kwang-sik Choi broke the news today in Seoul. Kim is expected to be formally elected next week at the inaugural general meeting.
The PyeongChang 2018 bid will hold a final closing assembly tomorrow and the new Olympic Games Organizing Committee (OCOG) will be formed.
Kim was nominated by South Korean President, Myung-bak Lee, as Special Ambassador for the PyeongChang 2018 bid and he worked on behalf of the government to use his valuable international experience promoting the bid to his network of global sporting community contacts.
Kim has served three consecutive terms (1998, 2002, 2006) as Governor of Gangwon Province and was the guiding force behind the past two PyeongChang bids for the winter Games. Under his term they engineered the Dream Program which has reached out to youth around the world.
He knows the cities well as he has also has served as mayor of Gangneung and Bucheon as well as vice-governor for administrative affairs.
In an earlier interview with SportsFeatures.com Kim said he loves winter sports and is very passionate about opportunity to boost the Asian winter sports market. He commented: “I enjoy snow sports like skiing with my family from time and time and I have had a lifelong dedication to winter sports development in my country.
"Bringing the Winter Games here has become something of an obsession for me.”
