LONDON: Britain's classic car model Mini has unveiled three limited edition models to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The cars have been launched to celebrate Mini's official partnership with Team GB and the Paralympics GB Team, which comes through Mini's affiliation to London 2012 partner BMW.

With only 2,012 of the special edition models available, the cars will come in Union Jack themed colours with a white roof featuring the iconic London 2012 Olympic logo.

To help launch the special edition models, England long jump champion J.J. Jegede leaped across three of the cars in London, measuring at distance of approximately six metres in length - a successful jump by a world-class athlete in top conditions is seven to eight metres.

Commenting on the jump, Jegede said: “When you watch athletics on TV it’s hard to really understand just how far professional athletes can jump. I’ve always wanted to demonstrate my ability in a fun way, so I jumped at the chance to perform an Evel Knievel-style display. It is my ultimate dream to compete at London 2012.  I spend much of my spare time working with young people to get them involved in sport too, but I certainly advise any budding athletes not to try this one at home.”

Mini's limited edition models feature a Union Jack single sport stripe which runs over the bonnet, roof and rear tailgate of the car. Inside the vehicles, the dashboard is etched with the London skyline, silhouetting some of London’s most iconic landmarks, including Tower Bridge, Battersea Power Station and the London Eye.

The London 2012 inspiration continues with red and blue stitching on both the front and rear black ‘Lounge Leather’ upholstery. The headrests also include a Union Jack and the London 2012 logo is stitched on the inner edge of both front seats.

Prices for limited edition models, available in Cooper, Cooper D, Cooper S and Cooper SD start at £17,800 and are set to hit UK roads from March 2012.

Following the unprecedented demand for tickets to the London Games, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games has confirmed demand for tickets for the Paralympic event was also high. Some 116,000 people applied for 1.14 million tickets for the Paralympic Games tickets between 9 September and 26 September 2011.
