TAMPA: The capital city of Spain is a primarily a city of beauty. It may be the political and economic center of the country, but Madrid has always maintained a focus on the arts, architecture, and sport.

Located on the high, dry steppes of central Spain, Madrid is a sparkling white city with a thriving and active culture.

With so many fabulous attractions, such as the Royal Palace, El Prado Museum, the Plaza Mayor, the Teatro Real, and San Francisco el Grande Basilica, Madrid is a city that cannot be visited too many times.

The city prides itself on its numerous and extensive parks and outdoor cafes, both of which encourage people to enjoy the outdoors.

The nightlife in Madrid is also world-class. Grab a late dinner of small-plate dishes called tapas, and head out to one of the many clubs or lounges.

Soccer will always be the preeminent sport of Madrid because of the quality of its two biggest clubs, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, but Madrid also has a strong affinity for basketball, tennis, and cycling.

The city has a number of stadiums already in place, including the crown jewel, Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernebéu, which could play a big role in the 2020 Summer Games bid plan.
