TAMPA: An International Olympic Committee (IOC) delegation has just concluded a two day working visit to the Sochi 2014 Olympic zones to evaluate the progress on the preparations for the winter Games. Overall the progress is going well but the IOC is keeping an eye on the hotel construction.

The IOC team comprised Jean-Claude Killy, head of the IOC’s coordination commission for Sochi 2014, Dmitry Kozak, Vice-Premier of the Russian Federation, Gilbert Felli, the IOC’s executive director for the Olympic Games, and Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 president.

This trip anticipated the upcoming 6th coordination commission visit scheduled September 12-14 and on the first day the delegation focused on the coastal cluster including the progress with building of new hotels.

Day two focused on the mountain cluster where they visited a number of sport and non-sport venues.

Olympian Killy said: “We’ve had a very productive two days here in Sochi and have seen continued progress in the development of the sporting venues both in the coastal cluster and in the mountains.

“I am confident that the world’s winter athletes will be impressed when they arrive in Sochi for the up-coming sports events and the Games in 2014. Our visit also intended to focus on hotel construction and operational planning.

“Although a lot remains to be done in this area which had been identified as an area of focus by the Coordination Commission, we are confident that Sochi 2014 and its partners are on track to deliver their commitments.

“The entire Sochi 2014 team deserves great praise for their achievements over the past six months.”

During the coordination commission next month the Sochi organizers will update the IOC on the staging of the Games, such as human resources, security, venue and infrastructure construction, transportation, and other aspects that will contribute to hosting the Sochi 2014 Olympics and Paralympics.
