TAMPA: The Asia Journalist Association (AJA) held a meeting in Seoul this past week gathering journalists and university professors to discuss the effect of the PyeongChang 2018 Games on the Olympic Movement.

Fourteen people were in attendance at the meeting held at the Korean Press Center and one of the main points up for discussion was the infusion the Games would have for sports market on the Asian continent.

Professor Shim Jae-chul from Korea University spoke out at the forum about the fact that he felt that the spirit of the Games had fallen under the spell of commercialization.

He hopes that the strong desire for hosting the Games in Korea will foster a special atmosphere and help to center the media's attention on the athletes’ stories of the Games and the real Olympic Spirit.

The participants also welcomed the fact that the winter Olympics are finally coming back to the Asian continent after two decades.

The AJA is looking to help the media to find a balanced view on reporting about the Games and to reach out to all the Asian colleagues to network now that the Games are coming back to the region.
