TAMPA/PYEONGCHANG: PyeongChang is not only preparing to host the 2018 winter Olympic Games but will also welcome in just two years time the Special Olympics athletes from around the globe for the World Winter Games in 2013.

Today the announcement that Korean gold medal star skater Yu-Na Kim has added her backing to the Special Olympics Games was just one more reaffirmation of the support behind the developing PyeongChang 2018 Games plan.

Kim was a dedicated athlete ambassador for PyeongChang 2018 and in her new role will be reaching out to help to raise awareness, change attitudes and impact policies for the special event.

In this final segment of our exclusive interview with Governor Moon-Soon Choi,  he shares with  SportsFeatures.com  some key preparations for the event.

In just two years, PyeongChang will host the Special Olympics Winter Games. Are there any particular preparations going on for these Games?

Moon-Soon Choi: PyeongChang Special Olympics World Winter Games 2013 will be held January 26 – February 6, 2013 with the attendance of about 15,000 people from 105 countries around the world.

The Organizing Committee (SOPOC), formed last November, consists of 128 prominent figures from all levels of society, including Chairwoman Kyung-won Na (National Assembly member) and myself as vice-chair, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Special Olympics Korea. Gangwon Province has lending active administrative and financial supports for the Games preparation by providing budgets and secretariat staff.

SOPOC has been preparing to organize the Games step by step. It has drawn its master plan and is now developing operations plans by function. Also, we developed its official slogan “Together We Can” and the Games emblem.

Are you planning a particular media campaign to promote Gangwon?

Moon-Soon Choi: A media team will be set up within the Organizing Committee to cover promotion strategies and media action plans as well as to respond to the media requests.

Please be certain that proper media plans will be launched to make both the Games beneficial and enjoyable for the Gangwon citizens.
