TAMPA/LOME, Jun 29: The PyeongChang bid presentation to the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Africa focused on how the bid plans to help Africa and Asia to reinforce the development of more athletes and fans and to expand their involvement in winter sports.

Bid leader Cho explained, “Our vision, called ‘New Horizons’, is simple. We want to help promote the Olympic Movement, and grow winter sport to new regions and connect with new audiences. We think that this is unique in this race for 2018, and it is something that only PyeongChang 2018 can provide.”

PyeongChang’s message is dedicated to expanding the Asian winter sports market and through their already successful Dream Program they have been able to reach out to innumerable African youth to experience winter sports for the first time. The bid area has been working for almost 10 years to perfect its proposed winter Olympics campaign.

The PyeongChang delegation, led by bid ceo Yang Ho Cho, also included gold medal superstar figure skater, Yu-Na Kim, as athlete ambassador for the Korean bid. She is an avid supporter of the Gangneung ice cluster where the skating venues would be located.

Kim says, “It would be a great honour for PyeongChang to host the Winter Games in 2018. We are committed to creating a long-term and sustainable winter sport legacy that means more winter sport athletes and fans around the world.”

Kim reiterated in her presentation these key points:

*Ensuring all Olympic teams have access to training facilities and venues prior to the Winter Games

*Providing ample accommodation for all additional team officials

*Ensuring that the Olympic Village Plaza has plenty of fun and interesting activities for all Olympians

*Making free WiFi available at all Olympic sites, including all residential and common areas of the Olympic Villages

*Guaranteeing that NOCs are treated fairly with operational matters and costs with PyeongChang’s Rate Card programme.

Chairman Cho highlighted the following goals:

*Create new opportunities for winter sports in areas of the world where they are underdeveloped

*Create an athlete-friendly Winter Games through the most compact and efficient venue layout

*Organize a successful Winter Games based on Korea’s experience in hosting major events and the nation’s growing passion for winter sports

*Create the most modern and sustainable winter sports hub in Asia to serve athletes for generations to come.

This 2018 bid makes the third time that PyeongChang has been in the winter Games bid race and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the 2018 bid plan,

The PyeongChang delegation will travel to Durban, South Africa today to start preparations for the final presentations to the IOC session for the vote July 6th. There are three cities in the race for the 2018 winter Games: Annecy, Munich and PyeongChang but there will only be one winner.
