Rio 2016 hosts first TOP sponsor workshop five years ahead of the Games

TAMPA/RIO DE JANEIRO, Jun 3: The organizers of the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics have held the first sponsorship workshop for partners this week to meet and discuss indepth ways of working together.

The focus of the meeting was for the identification of opportunities for partners, facilitating knowledge exchanges through case studies, and bilateral meetings between commercial partners with the Rio 2016 team.

Eight global TOP Sponsors were represented at the meeting Coca-Cola, Atos Origin, Dow, Omega, Panasonic, P&G, Samsung and Visa who have all signed sponsorships with the IOC through 2012-2016 quadrennial. Also involved in the event were local Brazilian sponsors Bradesco, Bradesco Seguros, Embratel and Claro.

Rio president and IOC member, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, said, “Having all sponsors together was really a great pleasure. We wish  Rio 2016 to be an unforgettable experience for our partners, and the chief objective of this event was to start a dialog about their expectations and how we can assist them in maximizing their business and Brazilian consumer approach strategies.”

Nuzman was joined by Rio 2016 director general, Leonardo Gryner, and Maggie Sanchez, the organizing committee’s executive commercial director.

IOC Television and Marketing Director,  Timo Lumme, also attended the meeting and said, “The IOC is fully convinced that Rio 2016 Games will set a dividing line in the history of the Olympic Movement.

“The largest sport event in the world is traveling to a new continent and one of the fastest growing economies in the world. We are sure that our partners are fully aware that Rio 2016 represents a huge opportunity for their business strategies”.

The sponsor attendees had a chance to experience some Brazilian hospitality with some “carioca” leisure activities including beach volleyball, traditional churrascaria barbeque and drinks.
