PyeongChang 2013 Special Olympics World Games launch logo and mascots

TAMPA/YEONGDEUNGPO, May 12: The PyeongChang 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games got a boost today as the organizing committee launched the new official logo and mascots.
The unveiling took place at Timesquare, Yeongdeungpo in Seoul with a celebration including Kyung Won Na, Congresswoman, Brady Lum, President of Special Olympics International, Yiruma, Pianist, Jin-ho Kim, professional swimmer, Kyung-joo Nam, Actor and 200 Special Olympics supporters celebrated the new look for the games.
The official logo for PyeongChang 2013 depicts an abstract runner expressing passion and joy. It represents people coming together with passion and wishing for the success of the 2013 Special Olympics.
Four colors are used in the design each one with a special meaning: yellow indicates hope and happiness, pink represents love and passion, green embodies trust and clean energy, and blue indicates a positive vision for the future.
Three themed mascots will animate the Games: Ra (blue asiatic black bear) In (red sheep), Bow (green sheepdog). These three animals are indigenous to the Gangwon Province and will inspire people with and without intellectual disabilities through their journey to the 2013 winter Games.
Special Olympics international now has grown to 3.5 million athletes in over 170 countries in all regions of the world, providing year-round sports training, athletic competition and other related programs for people with intellectual disabilities.
Its mission is to encourage and empower people, promoting acceptance for all, and fostering communities of understanding and respect worldwide.
