TAMPA/PYEONGCHANG, May 09: The Korean World Harmony Chorus will be holding a special Grand Chorus Celebration on May 14th bringing together three choral groups singing in unison to support the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic bid.

The World Harmony Chorus is a a non-profit and non-government support group that is backing the PyeongChang campaign.

Volunteers will take the stage in Seoul Plaza in front of Seoul City Hall, in PyeongChang at the Alpensia Resort Ski Jumping Stadium, and New York City, USA and the event will be broadcast live by the  Korean Broadcasting Corporation (KBS), Korea’s public broadcasting network.

A significant 2018 singers will make up the two leading choirs in Seoul and in PyeongChang commemorating the year they hope to host the Games.

The World Harmony Chorus is looking to set a new Guinness World Record for the biggest number of people in a chorus line beating the former record of 1628 participants held in April 2004 in California.

Bid ceo, Yang Ho Cho, said: “As we enter the final two months of our campaign, we are grateful for the unwavering support of people in Korea and around the world. This special event will be an inspiration for us and it gives us the momentum as we prepare for the important IOC Technical Briefing in Lausanne next week. We will remain committed to our efforts to promote our message of New Horizons until the very last moment.”

World-renowned Korean maestro Myung-Whun Chung will be directing the choir in Seoul as well as the other two choirs in PyeongChang and New York via a live feed. Having three choirs singing together in unison under one director in three different locations also marks a first.

 Maestro Myung-Whun Chung, said: “I believe the spirit of harmony and balance required for a beautiful chorus is in tune with the Olympic spirit. This Grand Chorus Celebration will show the world our passionate desire to host the 2018 Winter Games.”

Athlete ambassadors representing Korean winter sports will also join the chorus including Sang-hwa Lee (speed skating) and Young-jo Hwang (marathon). Volunteers who are interested to join the event in person can enlist through the World Harmony Chorus website (www.whc.or.kr) or show up spontaneously.

PyeongChang is competing against Munich and Annecy to host the winter Olympics in 2018 with only 58 days left in the campaign. The final vote will be held in Durban, South Africa on July 6th at the IOC session.
