TAMPA/PYEONGCHANG, Apr 27: Choi Moon-soon, former ceo of the Korean MBC network, is the new Governor of the Gangwon Province from which PyeongChang is hoping to win host rights to the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Three by-elections were held in Korea today and, with many eyes on this key political position, Choi went all out to be creative to catch voters' attention even bungee jumping, water skiing and beach driving early this month as part of his campaign.

Choi graduated high school in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, then was hired at MBC network and rose to president from 2005-2008. Ironically his contender in the governor’s race, Ohm Ki-young, took the helm as president of MBC as he left office.

As new Governor, Choi is expected to attend the upcoming IOC technical briefing in Lausanne May 18-19 to help the PyeongChang team lobbying to beat Munich and Annecy in the race to host the 2018 Games.
