TAMPA/LONDON, Apr 19: The annual SportAccord convention has long since become the place for networking but after this last event in London it now appears the perfect venue for announcements and launches.

SportAccord gathers representatives from more than 100 international sports federations and organisations affiliated to SportAccord (General Association of International Sports Federations), ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations) and AIOWF (Association of the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations).

The International Olympic Committee usually holds an executive board meeting, and participants also include sponsors, bidding and host cities, architects, sports lawyers, broadcasters, games organising committees, rights holders and other specialists to discuss the key issues facing the sports industry.

Anna Hellman, the convention's executive director, said: “Our event was created around the official meetings of our associations and other sporting bodies, so there have always been elections and decisions to report about but what was really noticeable and gratifying this year was that our delegates have recognised that we offer a fantastic opportunity to get their messages out to the world.

“Our own daily publication during SportAccord Convention Week was full of stories about deals and initiatives launched at our event, and with about 200 media attendees from around the world, the Convention appears to be becoming the place to make announcements.”

This year’s conference sessions featured a stellar list of speakers, including London Mayor Boris Johnson, London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe and Olympians such as Dame Kelly Holmes and Edwin Moses, as well as many top sports business leaders.

The exhibition area was once again sold out well in advance.

SportAccord will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year in Québec from May 20-25.
