LONDON, Apr 5: Christophe De Kepper has been appointed as director general of the International Olympic Committee following the resignation, through ill health, of Urs Lacotte.

Lacotte had taken up the role in 2003 after François Carrard left the IOC. He will continue to assist the IOC as needed during the transition.

De Kepper was previously director of the European Olympic Committee’s (EOC) liaison office with the European Union (EU).

A lawyer by training, his experience in the sports world also includes service as an expert on the development of an EU sports policy for the European Commission and as assistant to the Legal Director of the Belgian Olympic Committee.
