LONDON, Apr 4: The SportAccord convention takes place this week in the Olympic host city of London. Next time the sports world gathers here it will be to open the 2012 Games. SportAccord is the networking event of the year for the international sports federations and elite level Olympic organizations.

The agenda promises an exciting meeting week. Apart from the traditional meetings all three cities - Annecy, Munich and PyeongChang and Munich - who are bidding for the 2018 Winter Games are in town to make key presentations.

The IOC's executive board holds its traditional two-day meeting at SportAccord on Tuesday and Wednesday at which it is expected to reward a five-year campaign by confirming women's ski jumping on the 2014 Winter Games programme in Sochi. Also being considered for approval are slopestyle events in snowboard and alpine freestyle, ski halfpipe, a biathlon mixed relay and team events in figure skating and luge.

Inevitably, IOC president Jacques Rogge is expected to use one of his two press conferences to address the disruptive bid by the British Olympic Committee to redefine the terms of the 2012 financial settlement.

The summer and winter sports federations are gathering for their own annual assemblies. On Tuesday a law accord forum will be held dealing with the legal intricacies of international sport while the afternoon sees a city forum focusing on complex issues relating to bidding and hosting sports events.

SportAccord's own conference program deals with engaging topics such as why sport matters to London, London 2012 one year out, the press and athletes, the future of sports sponsorships, Brazil as an emerging sports market, the trends of the ceos of sport, and how sport is dealing with the economic crisis.

Next year's SportAccord is in Quebec City, Canada.
