PyeongChang 2018 bid plan distances and times

LONDON, Apr 4: SportsFeatures.com is taking an indepth look at all three 2018 bid cities from an overall logistics of the Olympic area point of view.

The PyeongChang bid brings a wealth of experience to the campaign as this is their third bid.

The bid plan is focused on two main clusters the Alpensia area and the coastal cluster located 33 km (approximately 25 minutes away) in the Gangneung area. There are two satellite areas situated close to the Alpensia area which are Jungbong for alpine skiing located 47km away and the Bokwang Phoenix Park located 46km away for freestyle skiing and snowboard.

The Alpensia zone will host ski jumping, biathlon, cross country skiing, nordic combined, luge, bobsleigh, and skeleton.

The Gangneung coastal cluster will host curling, figure skating, short track, speed skating, and ice hockey.

We are listing here a summary of the travel times to some of the main events during peak traffic by automobile and train for the year 2018 as posted in the PyeongChang bid book.

Main hotel area - 135 minutes by car / 70 minutes by train

Alpensia Olympic Village - 135 minutes by car / 70 minutes by train

Coastal Olympic Village - 145 minutes by car / 80 minutes by train

Coastal Olympic Village - 25 minutes by car / 15 minutes by train

Olympic Stadium - 5 minutes by car

Short track and Figure skating - 25 minutes by car / 15 minutes by train

Hockey events - 20 minutes by car / 15 minutes by train

Skiing events - Alpine 30 minutes by car - Freestyle 30 minutes by car / 20 minutes by train
