French stars come out to support Annecy 2018 with 100 days to Durban

TAMPA/ANNECY, Mar 28: With only 100 days left until the members of the International Olympic Committee vote on who will host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games and the stars have come out to support the bid for Annecy, France.

Zinedine Zidane, Marie-Jose Perec, and Christopher Lemaitre are just a few stars to come out and support he bid.

Since the beginning Annecy has been supported by 'sporting ambassadors' from various sports to help guide the bid and to increase public support.

The sporting ambassadors include such names as Sandrine Bailly (biathlon silver medalist), Denis Barbet (Paralympic alpine skiing gold medalist), Antoine Dénériaz (alpine skiing gold medalist), Edgar Grospiron (freestyle skiing gold medalist), Florence Masnada (3 time alpine skiing medalist), Gwendal Peizerat (ice dancing gold medalist), Perrine Pelen (3 time alpine skiing slalom medalist).

Florence Masnada, the Annecy 2018 Ambassador in charge of mobilizing the world of sports, said, “Sport flows in the veins of the French people. And the support of these great champions is a huge boost for the bid.”

A couple of the athletic supports for the 2018 bid are gold medal winner and 2002 Handball Player of the Year, Bertrand Gille, and NHL All Star Goalie, Cristobal Huet.

The President of Annecy 2018, Charles Beigbeder, commented on how Athletes are the backbone of the bid. He said, “We are delighted to have been able to unite the entire French Sporting Movement, including athletes of all disciplines, behind Annecy 2018. Their collective support and commitment in helping galvanize public support and promoting the bid around the world is vital as we enter the final straight in this campaign.”

The President of the French National Olympic Committee was quoted saying, “The entire French sporting movement is behind Annecy 2018. The French Sports and National Olympic Committee is more committed than ever and is giving the bid its unconditional support.”
